Official guidance and our output presets
Roblox describes the thumbnail and icon requirements below. The 1280 × 720 YouTube preset and the browser guardrails are product choices, not Roblox upload rules.
| Use | Our PNG preset | What the official docs say |
|---|---|---|
| Game thumbnail | 1920 × 1080 | A thumbnail should use a 16:9 aspect ratio and is ideally 1920 × 1080 for high-resolution display. |
| Game icon | 512 × 512 | Roblox recommends a 512 × 512 template; its best-practice guidance says an icon should be square and at least 512 × 512. |
| YouTube thumbnail | 1280 × 720 | This is our 16:9 creator-cover preset. It is not presented as a Roblox upload requirement. |
Crop once, download three exact sizes.
Your image stays in this browser. Select a local PNG, JPEG, or WebP, choose the crop behavior, then export true PNG files for each preset.
PNG, JPEG, or WebP · up to 15 MiB · up to 40 megapixels
Center crop trims the longer edge. Contain keeps all pixels and leaves transparent space when the aspect ratio differs.

Preview uses the 16:9 game thumbnail frame. The square icon export uses the same fit choice with its own canvas.

Clear limits, no silent upload
The file whitelist is PNG, JPEG, and WebP. Inputs over 15 MiB or 40 megapixels are rejected before export to keep local memory use predictable.
The original file is never sent to a server. The browser decodes EXIF orientation when supported, then renders a fresh PNG in a local canvas. A failed decode or PNG conversion is shown as an error.
